Magneti Marelli’s new solutions for rear lighting electronic systems were developed by Automotive Lighting to satisfy the customers’ higher and higher expectations, with regards to materials and brand style. The electronic design of rear lighting systems and their functions are increasingly important when designing new vehicles, and LED technology offers excellent possibilities in terms of variety and innovation when designing rear lights.
The control units power all the functions equipped with LEDs: rear parking lights, stop lights, direction arrows, fog lamps and reverse lights. The digital checks make for intelligent management of the rear lights by assisting drivers on a daily basis, and offer design engineers possibilities yet to be explored.
The electronics of Magneti Marelli Automotive Lighting includes control units and printed circuits for LEDs. Compared to traditional incandescent light bulbs, the main advantages of electronically controlled LEDs are long useful life (up to 100,000 hours) and low energy consumption, thanks to efficient conversion of electrical power into optic power, and the reduced depth of the modules.
This also offers interesting styling possibilities: new shapes, such as luminous tubes, light blades and dynamic effects. An additional advantage offered by LEDs is the fact that they turn on quickly which translates into an additional source of safety for drivers as it gives them more time to react in situations that require quick actions.
Automotive Lighting is a leader in the field of lighting electronics thanks to its know-how in LED technologies, in the use of flexible printed circuits that fit electronic components, and for the focus placed on problems concerning the thermal management of EMC requirements.
