Adaptive rear lamps

The light intensity of rearlighting functions in LED technology can be realised according to different driving and weather conditions.

This enables the development of Adaptive Rearlighting Systems (ARS) similar to the Advanced Frontlighting Systems in current headlamp projects.

These systems adapt to changing road and driving conditions. ARS aims to visualize clearly the intentions of vehicles driving ahead which allows faster reactions of following drivers.

For example, adaptive break lights can be intensified depending on the braking force.

Rear Illumination Adaptation

The illumination of the rear lamp can be adapted to day and night driving.

Functions:
  • Rearlight off
  • Rearlight on during day
  • Rearlight on at night

Brake Force Display

The intensity of brake lights corresponds to the braking intensity.

Examples:
  • Normal braking
  • Strong braking
  • Emergency Braking

Tail Visibility Adaptation

Even in bad weather conditions, rear lighting can be adapted to different viewing conditions.

Examples:
  • Rearlight on at night
  • Rearlight during fog
  • Rearlight during Bad weather

Adaptive Reverse Function

Enabling an optimum vision during reverse driving, the idea is to illuminate the rear lamp according to the direction of reverse driving.

Examples:
  • Straight reverse
  • Left turn reverse
  • Right turn reverse
