Each year, more than 1.4 million accidents cause approximately 40,000 fatalities and over 1.7 million injuries in Europe (EU25).
Moreover, the growing traffic volumes cause congestion problems of the main communication arteries and have harmful effects on the environment and on people's health.
Increasing the level of safety on the roads, guaranteeing the efficiency of transportation and making driving more cost-effective and consequently more compatible with the environment are the challenges faced by road transport today and by the players (users, administrations, industries, etc.) involved in this sector.
How to deal with the problem
These problems can be dealt with in the following ways: educating drivers and making them more aware of the issue, tightening road safety regulations, improving the physical road infrastructures and the vehicle safety systems through the use of ADAS systems as well as of active (ABS, ESP, etc.) and passive (Air bags, etc.) safety systems.
In this scenario, Magneti Marelli’s Electronic Systems division has begun to develop products pertaining to the ADAS sphere, also signing cooperation agreements with partners who operate in this field.
Magneti Marelli Electronic Systems works in the ADAS sphere by searching for synergies and integration with other products, with a special focus on environmental measuring systems based on vision and on microwave systems (radar).
