Human Machine Interface (HMI) outstands among the currently selected innovation axes.

Its relevance lies in the fact that the already available in-car systems have a huge complexity, sometimes requiring to the driver a high level of attention for selecting the desired functions.

For example, let us consider navigation systems.

In the near future, the complexity of the existing systems will further increase and new ones will appear, like the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems or ADAS.

The acceptance of ADAS by the drivers will strongly depend on the “goodness” of the feedback to the driver itself.

Moreover, in order to allow the driver to control the multitude of systems, it become necessary to provide him more and more information.

These considerations determine the priority to focus on a Human Machine Interface as “easy to use” and “safe to use” as possible, minimising the cognitive load required to the driver, that is mandatory in view of the growth of the complexity of the available systems.
