The warning can be acoustic and/or haptic (by acting on the electric pre-tensioner) and at the same time provide the direction of the obstacle and its distance (repetition frequency of the acoustic signal)
The type of warning issued is:
-
Directional: the warning comes from the same side the obstacle was detected
-
Distance-dependent: the repetition ration is related to the distance of the detected obstacle
-
Haptic: the driver is warned through the vibration of the seatbelt
It is also possible to interact with the powertrain control instrumentation for the purpose of actually inhibiting vehicle movement.
The solution developed by Magneti Marelli Electronic Systems is based on a stereoscopic vision with two video cameras that monitor the area in front of the vehicle.
Compared to solutions that use only one video camera, Magneti Marelli Electronic System’s approach offers the following advantages:
-
Better detection of static obstacles
-
Better detection of obstacles with references to lights and shadows
-
Greater detection precision referred to the vehicle movements.
