Magneti Marelli Exhaust Systems develops and produces exhaust systems for cars and engine-powered vehicles, using advanced technologies in terms of performances and quality.
The business line consists in seven locations, three of which in Europe (Italy, Spain and Poland), one in South Africa, two in South America (Brazil and Argentina) and one in Asia (China).
Joint venture with plants for production are located in Turkey and in India.
All the sites have a production plant, and four of them also have their own Research & Development centre (Italy, Spain, Brazil and China).
The exhaust system has two functions: on one side, it abates the pollutants contained in the exhaust gases (by means of catalytic converters) and on the other side it reduces the noise (by means of the silencing system).
Emission abatement systems
The abatement of pollutants contained in the exhaust gas is achieved by designing catalytic converters able to comply with the increasingly stringent legislations; these converters are integrated into the exhaust system with specific technologies.
Generally speaking for the pollutants abatement, in case of gasoline engines 3-way catalytic converters are used (for the abatement of CO, HC and NOx), while for diesel engine two-way catalytic converters are used (to abate CO and HC) along with Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
Systems capable of reducing NOx emissions for diesel engines are currently being studied.
Silencing systems
As far as the noise reduction is concerned, Magneti Marelli manufactures a wide range of mufflers developed with different technologies, which vary depending on customer requirements.
In addition, innovative solutions are currently being studied for both the “hot end” and “cold end” parts of the exhaust system, and they include innovative new technical solutions as well as new production technologies to improve quality and reduce weights and costs.
