Magneti Marelli Powertrain is Magneti Marelli business line dedicated to engines and transmissions components production for cars, motorbikes and light vehicles.
Powertrain business line Headquarters is set in Bologna, in the historical location in Via del Timavo, where Weber carburettors have been produced since 1920.
The main R&D centre is within the headquarter.
The 2 R&D centres, 4 Applicative centres e 11 manufacturing sites are in the 4 continents: in Europe (France, Italy and Germany), Usa (Farmington Hills and Sanford), Brazil (Hortolandia) and China (Shanghai e Wuhu).
Engine Control
The product range includes in the first place engine control units for gasoline and diesel vehicles.
Magneti Marelli Powertrain produces both the hardware part, consisting in the electronic control units that lead the engine operation, and the highly sophisticated software that characterises them.
In addition some components of the systems supplied to the automotive manufacturers have a great impact on engines’ performances and emissions: injectors, gasoline and diesel intake manifolds, throttle bodies.
Transmission Control
The transmission business line deals with robotized transmission gears, that is to say automation devices of the manual transmission derived from Formula 1 experience, which match together the user comfort and fuel consumption reduction.
As well as on various small and medium cars, other versions of the robotized transmission are installed on some supercars as Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin.
Clients
Magneti Marelli Powertrain clients are all the main European automotive manufacturers.
In Brazil the company is market leader.
The company also has some emerging Chinese and Indian manufacturers as costumers, like Chery, Suzuki-Maruti, Tata.
The motorbike manufacturers that employ Magneti Marelli Powertrain components are, among others, Piaggio, Ducati, Harley Davidson.
