Intake manifolds
There are basically two types of intake manifolds.
Static intake manifolds
This range includes traditional intake manifolds as well as those integrated with other engine components (filters, canister, pipes, EGR, engine head covers, etc.).
This kind of integration reduces the entire product cost.
Static intake manifolds are produced both in plastic and in aluminium.
Static intake manifolds in plastic material
Manifolds in thermoplastic material PA6 or PA66 are produced with shell sealed by vibration.
It is possible for Magneti Marelli to localize this kind of production in diverse geographic areas: China, India, Brazil, USA, Europe.
High tech plastic material is employed only when strictly necessary (structure parts, pivot/hinge, throttle, etc.) in order to reduce costs.
Integrated thermoplastic intake manifold
In the intake manifold air capacity it can occur the integration with the air filter, intercooler, engine head covering etc., in order to improve performance and to reduce costs.
This kind of intake manifold is employed also in naval applications.
As long as it is possible, we try to obviate inserts, screws, grommet, replacing them with shearing plastic parts, bonding, etc.
Dynamic intake manifolds
To obtain better performance and lower emissions it is possible to employ plastic intake manifolds equipped with throttle valves, useful for checking all effects of the “swirl” and/or “tumble”, in a dynamic way.
This kind of intake manifolds has specific application in GDI gasoline engines and TC engines.
Magneti Marelli Powertrain produces intake manifolds entirely in thermoplastic material, of dynamic type with throttle bodies attaining a “tumble” effect which improves the gasoline engine performance.
The intake manifolds have a rollaway “tumble” throttle system.
The realization is of a pneumatic type with feedback about the throttles position by contactless sensor.
