The valves control is executed through an electro-hydraulic cam component that adjusts the valve movement according to the time and the lift.
This technology enables the engine performance optimization and a 10% consumption reduction.
This kind of control is completely managed by the Electronic Control Unit ECU 8GMF, expressly created by Magneti Marelli.
The software architecture for the new ECU is composed by several layers, in order to meet AUTOSAR indications.
Valves and engine management strategies are produced as “full model”. More than 90% of the software is developed with assisted generation.
The Gasoline Direct Injection technology (GDI) is fully synergic with the valves control technology because it generates a further increasing of the compression rate and it gives a higher performance potential.
Advantages of the MultiAir valves control
Air and fuel levels control fully integrated
- Total flexibility in the air/fuel ratio in any condition
- Fast torque actuation capability (without penalizing the fuel consumption), especially with gasoline direct injection
Integrated combustion management in the torque structure
-
Higher flexibility in the management of different combustion model (advance valve opening/postponed closing; valve differentiation for each cylinder)
-
Integration of different air actuation means in the torque structure, that will include not only the effects related to the anticipation and to the air/fuel ratio, but also the effects related to the turbulence direct control.
New function and algorithms control
-
Development of new models totally based on software
-
Control of the actual compression rate
-
New advanced turn off modality
