BMW continues to invest in India
The BMW Group will continue to invest massively in India with the aim of consolidating its sales volumes in the premium segment (already + 8% in the first five months of 2017 to 3,533 units).
The Bavarian carmaker will soon launch the next generation of the 5-Series (recently produced at the Chennai factory) and next year it will introduce the new 6 Series Gran Turismo, the successor of the 5 Series GT.
The investment will also help to strengthen the local distribution network, now present in 30 cities of the emerging Asian market, in collaboration with nearly a dozen partners. It will be above all the new generation of the 5 Series to support the BMW volumes in India.
The car debuted in the country in 2007 and it has since then contributed with 30% of the total of the 66,000 BMWs sold in ten years.
At present, the Chennai factory assembles 1 Series, 3 Series, 3 Series Gran Turismo, 5 Series, 7 Series and the X1, X3 and X5 SAVs.
