General Motors to launch 9 locally produced electrified vehicles in next 5 years in China
General Motors will introduce nine locally built plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles in China by 2023. The vehicles are part of 60 new and freshened models SAIC-GM joint venture plans to launch in China during the next five years.
The first two locally produced electrified vehicles to be launched will be the Buick Velite 6 electric sedan and a Chevrolet-badged electric car. They will go on sale in 2019 along with 16 new and face-lifted gasoline vehicles.
The Buick Velite will debut soon while the Chevrolet EV will be launched later this year.
Actually SAIC-GM markets only two electrified vehicles -- the Buick Velite 5 extended-range electric vehicle and the Cadillac CT6 plug-in hybrid.
To improve fleet-wide fuel efficiency, it will gradually expand the application of 48-Volt systems on traditional vehicles that introduce fuel-saving technologies such as stop-start systems, regenerative brakes and e-turbochargers.
